Sonja and her husband Steve completes the London Marathon
“I’M so proud of my husband for running the London Marathon after learning to walk again.”
These are the heart warming words of Sonja Graham our Immediate Past Chairman, who completed the London Marathon in under 5 hours and saw her husband Steve complete the 26 mile race in five hours, 27 minutes.
Sonja's husband Steve, was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord, three years ago, which left him paralysed from the chest down.
After six weeks in hospital and intense physiotherapy Steve was able to walk again. They both applied to take part in the London Marathon last year, without either one knowing!
Sonja, 40, had her own hurdles to overcome after undergoing back surgery for a prolapsed disc.
The couple have raised £2,600 for deaf, blind charity Sense one of our Shirley Ladies Circle charity for last year. Well done we are very proud of you!
